Eddie Izzard began his career as a street performer and then became known internationally as a stand-up comedian. He's won two British Comedy Awards for best stand-up, and Emmy Awards as both performer and writer
for his comedy Eddie Izzard: Dress to Kill. His work as an actor has included playing Lenny Bruce in Lenny, directed by Sir Peter Hall, and other West End productions. His solo shows tour extensively.

SC: You said that coming out as a transvestite was important to you. Did it make a difference to your audience?
EI: No, No. The bizarre thing is it made zero difference. I don't really have a transvestite audience, because there's not many male TV's who are out. And if there are women TV's who are out, no one
knows about it.
